When do you need a long blade?

6.8 or 7 inch scissors are needed when the blade must cover a lot of hair at once: on long perimeters and bobs, where a continuous line avoids steps, and in barber scissor over comb, where the blade works parallel to the comb. The longer the blade, the fewer passes you need and the more even the result.

TSS68 ELITE or TS7 PRO?

  • TSS68 ELITE (6.8″): sword blade in Japanese steel with ball bearing and Teflon Tech; excellent for perimeter cuts, fades and slide cutting. The long blade for the salon.
  • TS7 PRO (7″): long, straight blade with a fine tip in steel, dedicated to cutting over the comb, scissor fades and blending on men's cuts. The long blade for the barber.

A long blade for bobs and perimeters

On bobs and one-length lines, a long blade traces the perimeter with fewer interruptions: the article scissors for the bob cut: why you need a long blade explains the technique. For scissor over comb, read why 7 inches for scissor over comb and see the barber scissors collection.

How to hold long scissors

With a 6.8″ or 7″ blade, balance matters more than with a short pair: the scissors must stay steady while only the thumb moves, without the tip wavering. Work with a straight wrist, rest the still blade on the ring finger and use the full length of the edge on perimeters. If you are used to a 6″, start with wide sections and work over the comb, and leave the detailing to the short pair.

A long blade does not replace a short one

The long blade works on sections, the short one on details: that is why the Evoluto System of the TOUCH Cutting system adds a long blade, TSS68 ELITE (salon) or TS7 PRO (barber), to the precision pair and the TU ELITE. For an in-between length, see the 6.5 inch scissors.
