Care and sharpening
TOUCH hairdressing scissor sharpening restores the edge to its original geometry, whether the blade is convex, flat or toothed. You can choose sharpening only, or sharpening with full maintenance, including cleaning, a ball bearing check and tension adjustment, for hairdressing and barber scissors.
How often should hairdressing scissors be sharpened?
There is no number of months that applies to everyone: it depends on how many clients you cut, the steel and how you care for the scissors. The right signal is how the blade behaves: when it folds or pushes the hair instead of cutting it, when it "chews" the ends, or when you have to tighten the screw too much to make it cut, it is time to sharpen. The article how often to sharpen hairdressing scissors explains the signs one by one.
| Service | What it includes | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Sharpening | Sharpening the edge to its original geometry | Scissors in good condition that have lost their edge |
| Sharpening + full maintenance | Sharpening, cleaning, ball bearing check and tension adjustment | Scissors used for a long time, stiff or loose |
Why use a specialist service
A convex blade sharpened like a beveled one loses its smooth glide and never returns to how it was; toothed shears must be sharpened without touching the teeth. The TOUCH sharpening and maintenance service works on convex, flat and toothed blades, from TOUCH and other brands, respecting the original profile. The differences between edges are explained in beveled, convex or semi-convex blades.
How it works
You order the service from the product page, send us the scissors well protected and, once the work is done, we send them back ready to use. Indicative times and shipping conditions are on the service page; if you are writing from abroad, please contact us before ordering. If the ball bearing needs replacing, we let you know before going ahead.
Daily care: making the edge last longer
- Clean the blade after every client and dry it well, especially after wet cutting.
- Put a drop of oil on the pivot at the end of the day and check the tension with the drop test: you will find the procedure in how to clean and adjust hairdressing scissors.
- Always store the scissors in their case and avoid knocks and drops, which damage the edge.
Mistakes that ruin the edge
Sharpening them yourself with stones or universal sharpeners, using cutting scissors on materials other than hair, leaving them wet or tightening the screw to make up for a worn edge: these are the habits that most shorten the life of professional scissors. If the scissors have been dropped and the tip is marked, do not use them: a chipped blade damages the hair and makes things worse.
After sharpening
Sharpened and adjusted scissors cut cleanly again, with less effort for the wrist.
