Convex blade, Teflon Tech and ball bearing: technologies that change the cut

Three technologies change the way professional scissors work in your hand: the Full Convex blade, Teflon Tech treatment and the ball bearing with micrometric adjustment. The first concerns the edge and how it enters the hair, the second the friction between moving parts, the third the stability of rotation and the tension. Together they make the movement more natural, continuous and less tiring.

Full Convex: the edge follows the movement

In a convex blade the edge is not made with a simple flat bevel: the blade slopes towards the cutting edge with a curved profile, which makes the edge very sharp and smooth-gliding. It is the typical geometry of Japanese-style scissors.

  • Glide: the edge enters the hair with less resistance.
  • Control: the movement stays even along the whole blade.
  • Result: clean lines and softer finishes.

This geometry makes gliding techniques such as slide cutting and slicing possible, where the half-open scissors glide along the section instead of closing. In the TOUCH system the Full Convex blade is found on X SERIES and TSS68.

Teflon Tech: less friction, more freedom

With every cut the two blades rub against each other at the contact point. Teflon Tech treatment reduces resistance right there, so closing becomes freer, more continuous and quieter.

  • Smoothness: less resistance between the parts, so less effort for your hand.
  • Quiet: the movement is more discreet, a detail clients notice.
  • Durability: less friction over time means less wear in repetitive work.

Not every model has Teflon Tech treatment: you will find it on X SERIES (TU57/65), TSS68 and Suprema (TUX625).

Ball bearing and micro-adjustment: stable control

The pivot is the mechanical heart of the scissors. In the TOUCH system it is made up of four elements:

  1. Pivot screw: the axis that joins the two blades and supports the whole system.
  2. Ball bearing: makes rotation smooth and stable and reduces lateral play between the blades.
  3. Tension washer: sets the closing tension of the blades.
  4. Micro-adjustment wheel: allows a micrometric, personal setting of the tension, to be fine-tuned over time.

The practical benefit is comfort: the movement stays even after hours of work, and the scissors adapt to your movement rather than the other way round. Every model in the TOUCH system has a ball bearing.

How to check scissor tension

Wrong tension ruins even the best scissors. If it is too loose, the blades open up and the hair folds instead of being cut; if it is too tight, closing becomes tiring and the blades wear out sooner.

A simple check: hold the scissors with the tip pointing up, open the moving blade and let it drop. If it closes completely, the tension is too loose; if it stays put, it is too tight. The blade should drop and stop before closing. With the micro-adjustment wheel, the correction takes a few seconds. You will find the full procedure in the guide how to clean and adjust hairdressing scissors.

Technology needs maintenance

A convex edge, anti-friction treatment and bearing only work at their best if the scissors are clean, sharp and adjusted. The TOUCH sharpening and maintenance service works on edge geometry, blade alignment and adjustment: sharpening €69, sharpening with full maintenance €89. From outside Italy, please contact us before ordering.

FAQ

What are convex-blade scissors?

Scissors whose blade slopes towards the edge with a curved profile. The edge is very sharp and smooth-gliding, suited to slide cutting, slicing and dry cutting.

What does Teflon Tech do in scissors?

It reduces friction at the contact point between the blades: closing becomes smoother and quieter and wear decreases in repetitive work.

What does the ball bearing do in hairdressing scissors?

It stabilises the rotation of the blades and reduces lateral play, so the movement stays even after hours of work.

How do you adjust scissor tension?

With the micro-adjustment wheel on the pivot. Open the moving blade and let it drop: it should fall and stop before closing completely.

Feel the difference

TOUCH was founded in 2012 by a group of professional hairdressers: technology should not complicate the job, but make what you do every day feel more natural. Discover the collection or contact us for personal advice.
